Mother's Day

Just a quick post this time ;) For Mother's day this year we had a small little gathering at my big sister's place for an outdoor movie night. I decided to dress in a casual Lolita outfit for the occasion because I really wanted to feel festive but still comfortable, since we weren't doing much.

 And here's my coord ^^
Dress: Handmade (bought off Etsy)
Top: Marshall's
Jacket: American Eagle
OTKs: Bodyline
Shoes: Angelic Pretty
And a picture of me and my Mommy. I freakin love this woman so much <3<3<3
It was a fun night and I was really happy that my mommy and big sister loved the gifts I made them; which was photo albums with pictures I had taken years earlier. I didn't fill them all the way but I still have lots more pictures so I'll be saving them for future gifts, huhu. That's it for this one ^^;

Madame Butterfly Ballet

While the city I live in might not have lots of fashion events like in CA; we are lucky enough that our big city likes to do free events at the long standing Miller Outdoor Theater. Since its beginnings 89 years ago, Miller Outdoor Theatre has provided a unique resource for the City of Houston and its visitors. Steadfast in the founding principal that the theatre shall provide cultural and educational events free of charge for the public (yeah, that was not my wording. I took it from here), this time the event was the Houston Ballet performing Madame Butterfly. I had never seen a ballet before so I mentioned it the girls in my comm and two of them ended up coming out. Great thing about Lolita is usually even if you don't know each other it's easy to find on another ^^ just look for the big poof. It was a great show and I will definitely be attending more events in the future.

After the show ended we took a few mandatory pictures
Jessica, Emi and Me (We didn't plan it but we all wore black-white)
Emi let me borrow her parasol for my first parasol picture <3
Dress/Socks: Bodyline
Cardigan: H&M
Shoes: Secret Shop
After taking regular pictures we decided we didn't want the fun to end,
so we went off to find more places to take pictures and ended up with a flurry of silly picture taking

Christian Rock Band cover. lol
Look at our cute butts #^.^#
Sailor Senshi Posing
Blowing away the competition
Then we started trying to get jumping pictures but it was so hard to get one where everyone was off the ground,
and Jessica was wearing heels so it was even harder for her XD but still lots of fun
Almost got it
And surprisingly I got a good picture of me jumping with no hair in my face and smiling. Yay!
 Then we started dancing
And finally ended with a Jojo pose for Stephany (because we love her) She also gave us her nod of approval for this photo.
Yes!!! So glad we did it justice <3
We ended the night close to midnight and walked the girls to their car. And when me and my husband went to get our car (in the zoo parking lot) we found out they close the gates and no one can get in or out. So we did what any rational adult would do and jumped the curb. Ok, I lied. Rational adults wouldn't do that! Please don't do that >< We ended up hitting the back of the car hard onto the ground coming down and had to get stuff fixed Monday (which meant we missed work) and it ended up costing a lot. Totally worth it though. huhu
(special thanks to mu hubby for taking all of these pictures ^3^)

Work and Lolita

When it comes to what to wear for work I'm kinda lucky that my job doesn't really have a set dress code (well they do but the guys around here don't really care XD). If I really wanted I could probably get away with wearing Lolita (maybe not sweet), but I wouldn't do it because attached to our office is the machine shop; so our desks and concrete floors are constantly covered in dust, dirt and tiny metal particles. Otherwise I would love to get all dressed up everyday to head to work ^^

I work in the oilfield industry and have so for the past 6 years, and pretty much every year working in the industry I have attended one of the biggest oil conventions held here in Houston called OTC. Every time it comes around I stress about what to wear, end up in a skirt and heels and walk around uncomfortable the whole day. This year (my first year of Lolita) when thinking about what I would feel most comfortable in all day; I had to keep in mind all the walking I would endure and also all the stares. The oil industry has always been a man's world. Yes, there are a lot more women in the industry but when it comes to events like this they are few and a lot of times they are put to work a booth to garner up business (ie. eye candy). I always feel uncomfortable being stared at when I know the person in question is looking at me with lusty eyes and I was not looking forward to that ><

After much thought (and consulting my co-worker who I was attending with) I came to the conclusion that Lolita really was what I most wanted to wear. My shoes are comfortable with their insoles, my dress not revealing and the most important it made me feel like myself. So I decided to do just that.
My Co-worker (Kari) and I with two of the guys working a booth. We loved their pants and had to get a pic
I must say I really was happy with my decision. I did get stares but I didn't notice them because I felt comfortable in my own skin; and if they were staring they were staring at my clothes and not in a lusty kind of way. Kari even made a comment at one point saying "man, everyone is staring at you, even after you pass them by they turn around" and I just shrugged and said I wasn't really paying attention.

This year was one of my favorite OTCs. I had an awesome time, everyone who complimented me was really nice about it and I even had the courage to go to all the vendor booths that I did business with even if I wasn't sure who my salesperson was (unlike prior events; I'd say I know the co. but couldn't remember the person and just pass it by). It was a great experience for myself and I would do it again in a heartbeat. While I'm not sure all styles of Lolita would be a good choice, I was happy with my dark but school like outfit and think it wasn't too eye catching to get a lot of bad attention (which is always something to consider when choosing an outfit)

So happy they allowed me to take this picture on the portable land rig (sorry about my peeking bloomers XD)

Have you ever worn Lolita to work or a work event? What was your experience? I'd love to hear about it ^^
And I'll leave you with that...

May the 4th B with You

On May the 4th one of the girls from our community had a birthday party at a local karaoke/restaurant. I wasn't sure what I was going to wear when I woke up in the morning, but one thing that had stuck in my head was she had said a possible theme for it would be Star Wars due to it being
May the 4th (be with you).

So when I started to get ready for the day this is what I came up with. It's my take on Princess Leia if she was alive today.
Still all white but with black "punk" elements to it; like the spiked choker, boots and I even had my black star bag (but forgot to take a pic of it). I think she would be a kind of sweet bad ass. lol My skirt really isn't "Lolita" but I think the light petti underneath still gives it the nice shape Lolita is known for (and I don't yet have an official white Lolita skirt yet)
Blouse: Bodyline
Skirt: F21
Hoodie: American Eagle
All Accessories: Offbrand
(except my ring which is handmade)
Face Close-up: I braided my pigtails before I made them into buns
Of course when I arrived at the restaurant I ended up being the only one in Lolita and the only one in theme >< Total Fail! lol It's ok though because I am really happy with how my coord came out and looking at this makes me even miss my long hair a little. It was a really nice night and I even got sing a few songs. YAY!!! Plus the hubby was able to bond with a couple of the girls <3 Awesome night ^^ Love you Markie!!!

Posing / Karaoke Meet

Originally this meet was supposed to be a shenanigans posing meet; unfortunately mother nature didn't get the memo and decided to rain on our parade ;_; It's ok though because if Lolitas are anything it's resourceful so we met at the pagoda of our local garden center where we were able to escape the rain and still have our picnic. I didn't get any pictures of the randomness that ensued after eating but eventually we headed to the museum since the rain was starting to come down again.

Since we came about 30 minutes before closing we were able to get in free and had the quickest tour. lol. It was a sight to see as all the frillies ran excitedly to all the pieces on exhibit #^.^#

"Look at how long the tails is"
Looking at the table of elements. Sorry for the blurry pic. My camera was being weird.
Not really "Lolita" but look at the pretty rainbow *^*
Lolita's making energy :)
Since it seemed like our meet was cut short a few of us decided to go do some karaoke <3
Markie and Kate singing The Sound of Music
(From left to right: Noelle, Markie, Kate and Pengu)
And here's my coord from the day, it took forever to tease my hair enough to get my buns that full and I think even longer to brush out all the knots. lol
JSK & blouse: Bought 2nd hand from a girl in my comm
Socks: Bodyine
Shoes: Secret Shop
Purse: Ebay (Loris)

I really had a great time. I freakin love karaoke so it was a pleasant surprise to end the day like that. More frill filled adventures to come...

Anime Matsuri 2013

At the time things were so hectic that I didn't realize that Anime Matsuri was going to be such an amazing experience for myself as a Lolita. I got to see some of the girls I've met in my community in a different environment and become better friends with them. Look upon some of the most beautiful coords in front of my very eyes during the fashion show and even had the opportunity to meet one of my biggest Lolita idols ^^
Since it really was alot and would take me a long time to go into all the details I'll just show you the pictures I have.

Friday
Some of the girls from our community: Stephany, Kate and Tati
Friday @ the Opening Ceremony: Before they went up on stage (I'm a stalker like that. lol)
Masumi Kano (BABY Designer), Tomomi Nakamura (AATP Designer), Misako Aoki, Midori Fukasawa
You can see my post on the Baby Fashion Show here. There are too many pictures to add them all.

Saturday
Saturday I was lucky enough to attend the Lolita Tea Party.
In line waiting for the tea party to start; surprisingly I wasn't last in line. But man do I have bad posture >< lol
One of the tables full of beautiful Lolitas <3
Didn't get too many pictures because I'm pretty shy around people I don't know and attended this event by myself, but everyone looked so awesome!
Noelle and Stephany in White x Gold Coords <3
And Meci and Jasmin in Lavender x White
Double Wedding!!!
We were all (4 at a time) given an opportunity to sit at the table with the designers and models, which I was not expecting.
Once it was my turn and I sat down I had the nervous giggles for at least 30 seconds ><
Luckily Whitney, who went up with me was more calm and collected and took out her phone so she could translate what she wanted to say.
They also gave each of us a Baby journal. Mine was given to me by Misako *^* It was a very amazing experience <3
Me with Masumi Kano & Misako Aoki
Lauren and her boyfriend. She made his outfit. They're so cute #^.^#

Here's the link to our group photo <3
After the tea party Misako and Midori were signing autographs so I had the journal I got signed *(^-^)*
Look at how beautiful they are! And Midori was an awesome prince <3
I didn't go on Sunday, but next year I will make sure to go to both Tea Parties and Friday also.
Plus next year is supposed to be even better than this year which I had no idea would be possible.
