How Old is Too Old for Lolita?

In a few months, September 18th to be exact, I will be turning 27! When I finally learned that the fashion I always admired and enjoyed looking at was called Lolita, I was almost past my 1/4 century mark. For the next year or so; I read up on the fashion that had stolen my heart and anytime the urge to actually try to wear the fashion arose I always came back to the conclusion that I was too old for it.

I bought my first Lolita dress almost 2 years ago from an Etsy shop of a girl who said she just wanted to spread the love for the Japanese fashions that she found so inspirational. I got a really great deal on it, and even though it's not perfectly made I still adored it and wore it a couple of times but not as Lolita.

During the time that I spent learning about Lolita and reading all the thoughts of people from all over the world. One of the topics that always caught my attention was the topic of age in Lolita. Everyone seemed to have a different opinion on the matter. "Lolita should only be for younger girls", "anyone can wear Lolita no matter their age" or the "you can wear Lolita but if you're old then you should be wearing Classic or Gothic styles". There were so many other opinions as well, these were just a few of the ones that were echoed time and time again.

But what if you're older and the styles you love the most are ones that "older people shouldn't be wearing"? And that's where I faced my dilemma. Was I going to let the opinions of others on a fashion that is meant to make you feel special and beautiful deter me from wearing it; or was I going to make my leap of faith and finally wear something that I loved so much that when I saw it it made my heart race? It was already influencing my fashion in my everyday life and giving me a new prospective on how I saw things; so why shouldn't I give it a try before I lost more time that could be spent enjoying it?

Well, if you're reading this then I'm sure you know what decision I made ^^ And now it's been around 4 months since I wore Lolita for the first time, and I don't regret a thing. Since then so much has happened to me and when I really think about it all; I think fashion and Lolita are the driving force behind it. I'm finally starting to feel like myself and finding joy in the clothes I wear, instead of just wearing clothes because clothes are necessary to cover your naked body. lol

Not only that but Lolita has lead me to meet so many new and very special people. And the awesome thing about that is they're not all only on the Internet. I have a community full of wonderful people and it continues to grow and add more great people to meet and hopefully become friends with. While I know there will always be negatives in the world, even within Lolita, it's done so much more good that it's almost diminished the negative. I am finally starting to feel that I'm finding my place in this world when I thought there never was one for me. Now I'm able to finally find my own joy and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I don't know if I will wear Lolita forever, though I hope I do, but that's ok because I'm living in the now.

So if you, like me are older or really any age, sex, race, or even an alien and love Lolita but are too unsure whether you should finally try it. Wearing Lolita in-itself is such an experience. For that time you're wearing it you can be a pastel princess, a sailor, pirate, Victorian queen, or anything your imagination can dream. In my opinion if it's something that you really feel love for and you have that drive to do it then don't wait any longer and take the leap into all the fluffy goodness that is Lolita. I don't think you will regret it, but if you do and find out it's not for you; then you can always sell the things you bought to someone who will treasure them and find joy in them. There are lots of us out there.

Hope maybe my experience and thoughts on this issue might help someone. If you have any questions, while I'm not an expert I don't mind trying to help out or even asking my fellow Lolis if I'm unable to answer, feel free to send me a message <3 Angel Brite

Loligagging

I decided to go ahead and make a separate post for the shenanigans that ensued after the Kawaii Fashion Show. Originally Stephany wanted to take kamehameha pictures after the fashion show but everyone parted ways to check out the rest of the festival, so five of us went off to attempt to take some cool pictures. Here's what we ended up getting
We didn't realize how hard it is to try to capture a picture like this (even though it's still not perfect)
Super Human Ouji Powers!!!
Markie Vadering us. lol ( I really like this one)
TKO PUNCH!!! (look at Markie's graceful fall)
Markie and Stephanie Jojo posing
We didn't get many shots but we took alot of pictures and had so much fun doing it.
I'll leave you with the first GIF I made from a small video we shot that day.
It's awesome to meet people who don't mind being silly. Hehe

Japan Festival

On April 13, the Houston Lolita Community was invited to put on a Kawaii Fashion Show at the annual Japan Festival. They did such an amazing job show casing so many of the different styles. I didn't get any pictures of the show since I tried my first attempt at taking video (which I still need to edit). But I did get some pictures after the final walk and when everyone was done. So Enjoy!

Not so Tea meet

(*Copied and pasted this from my other blog so I could keep all of my Lolita related experiences in one place so this event actually took place I think March 23rd) Last month some of the girls in our community (HLC) put together a small meet at a local tea house. I actually made it right on time only to find a few of the girls waiting outside of a closed tea house. After waiting a while someone came to the tea house, looked at us and went inside without asking any questions. Since they had just opened up we decided to give them some time before us bombarding them with questions.

After a little bit of time passed the gentleman came outside and asked what we were waiting for. A little confused one of the girls told him we were waiting for an appointment we had made online. He said he had just spoke to his wife (who was at home ill) and she wasn't aware of any appointments. Long story short they don't check the website they created even thought they have a place you click to schedule appointments so we were left to change our plans right then and there >.<

I think it worked out better (at least my husband thinks so since he's not one for tea and small sandwiches) since we ended up going to a Japanese restaurant up the road.

It was a nice time and I was able to talk to some of the girls I have been secretly (i guess not a secret anymore. hoho) stalking. lol

Outside of the Restaurant (Left to Right): Kay, Stephany, Me, Pengu, Samantha and Jessica
(Laurie left before we took this >.<)
After eating some of us went to pick up our badges for Anime Matsuri at the local Marque
(Sorry the pic is so blurry) Members of the Houston Lolita Community w/Deneice from Anime Matsuri <3

They had this up for the new Monsters Inc movie (Monsters U) coming out so of course we had to take pictures
HLC Gangstas
Then after that we stopped at a local place called Sweets and I had my first macaron.
OMG! Absolutely Delicious (didn't get any pictures except the one below of some of the decor)

After we all went our separate ways and headed home.
It was a really great time and everyone I met was awesome <3

And here's my outfit shot.
Looking back at this (over a month later) I'm not completely happy with it.
I would do something more with my hair since it looks crazy but practice makes perfect ^-^

Introduction

Hello! My name is Angel or Angel Brite! I am fairly new to the blogging world (I started my main blog in September of 2012) and even so this is the 3rd blog I created. I'm really bad at updating them I know that but I also feel that my life and likes are so broad that creating different blogs might benefit me better so I can keep similar related things in one place both for myself and anyone who wishes to read this stuff.

So here it is! My blog dedicated to Lolita. Here I will write reviews, experiences and opinions on the fashion. Since I started wearing the fashion in Feb. of this year it has become so much more than just clothes for me which is why I decided that it deserves it's own attention.

Here are the links to my first experiences with Lolita (Lolita Love and my First Meet) I'm too lazy to copy and paste it all here so hopefully these links to my first blog will be ok. I look forward to keeping up with this blog and sharing with everyone all the magic that comes from this frilly fashion!

Stay Tuned!
